Not a lot to say today as just travelling across
country east to west central France with a one night stop over.
We left Lake Annecy at 8.45am heading for Tronget
for our one night stop on the way tomorrow to Saint-Junien. ( Still in France.)
We travelled about 320km today and our Hotel Du
Commerce was meant to be about 2km off the main highway but our GPS took us off
much earlier and drove us for miles down all these single lane roads all
through farms. We were in the middle of nowhere and I thought hope it can get
us out of here. Even the Car’s built in GPS came up ”off road” and went blank. We
finally arrived at our destination quite some time later. Since been here we
have looked at the map to see where we were and yes we are only about 2km from
the main highway so should be a lot quicker to get out of here. The place is
very dead here in this little country village as it is Sunday and everything is
closed. I think the only place for dinner will be in the hotel and it looks
expensive.
When we entered Switzerland the other day we had
to pay 40 Swiss francs for a sticker for the car windscreen which is a road
toll which lets you drive on their roads for one year as they don’t pay tolls
as they go, but when we entered France we asked the customs at the boader, do
we need one for here. He waved his hands and said No, No, it’s free in France
but gosh the road tolls are very expensive, you pay as you go. We spent 18.80
Euros today and 7 Euros when we entered France from Switzerland. It probably
pays for all these big tunnels we have been travelling through. It will really
add up by the time we leave France as we have many toll roads to come.
It’s hard to get used to having long daylight again
not getting dark until about nine. The first night in Annecy, where we did our
own cooking we sat down to eat at 9.00pm and thought it was only 7.00pm
The last four days have been big walking days in
the heat so was good just to sit in the car driving today and now just watching
the tennis and trying to relax. Mainly just another driving day tomorrow.
We were really lucky with the great weather we
had in Annecy as half of todays driving was in some very heavy rain.
Des you asked for a photo of our rental car we
have at the moment . And no we haven’t
heard any more about our other car. They just say we will contact you when the
papers and plates arrive. How long does it take from Paris to Frankfurt. I think that they could have been sent to N.Z. and back to Paris in that time. It’s
now five days. Haven’t taken any other photos today.
