Now at Luneburg and have quick Wi-fi so won't take too long to down load, all in one, last three days.
July 11
Now at Ahlbeck on the Baltic sea. Haven't seen the sea since Nice. Didn't leave Genthin until about 11.30 and arrived at 4.30pm. Really nice apartment Steffi and Torsten organised for us which is about 200m from the beach.
We went for a walk down onto the Jetty where we sat and had a nice meal looking over the water. Then a walk along the waterfront until just before 10.00pm. Still light although the sun had gone down.
It gets light so early in the morning, having trouble sleeping. Light white curtains here so no blackout at all.
In the evening after arriving we walked down to the jetty. This is at the end of the jetty looking back to the town of Ahlbeck.
Steffi, Janne and Torsten
Looking back the other way to the restaurant on the jetty where we had a very nice meal.
Looking out from the Restaurant window where we were sitting.
Our little nook in the Restaurant.
Looking out from the jetty. Sun getting low now.
Above and below sun just going down.
Janne in the bus. Didn't want to get out.
One of the hotels along the main street.
July 12Took off about 10.00am walking along the beach side walk which goes forever between towns. Lots of bikes, walkers, prams. Great area for all this. The bikes have their own area.
Beautiful properties right along the walkways as shown in photos. Mainly Hotels.Lots of money in this area.
It started off nice but got a lot cooler and windy. We started off in Ahlbeck where we are staying and walked to the next village Heringsdorf where we walked through some nice shops. There was another pier full of shops and had a fish and chips lunch eating some local fish just the same as our flounder. The water at this beach is very shallow but the tide doesn't move much.
By the time we walked to this area the clouds got very black, the rain started then thunder and turned really cold. We didn't have jackets with us and by now we were along way from base.
On the way back went into a hotel for coffee just to keep warm and stay out of the rain.
At this point I suggested that I cooked dinner in our unit for all of us to save going out in the cold again especially as young Janne has a bad cough and cold.
After dinner they put Janne to bed and as his room was straight above our lounge. They had a unit the floor above us. Steffi and Torsten came back to us with baby monitor and we had a few wines and strawberries and a good chat. Very pleasant.
The next four properties along the beach walkways. Probably mainly hotels. They are magnificent as you can see.
Showing the walkways set amongst beautiful trees and grounds. Steffi, Torsten and Pete.
Looking back from the pier to Heringsdorf.
You can hire these basket seats for 7euro for the day or 2 euro for a hour. They keep the wind off you.
The boys would love these slides. You can hire these peddle boats and just sit out in the water while the kids enjoy the sliding into the water. The slide would look good on PTs green pea!!
PT's new girlfriend. He always finds one.
This becomes a big screen in the water where people come and hire the basket seats and watch sporting events at Ahlbeck.
Looking back along the beach the other way.
July 13Met up at 10.30am and caught the little tourist train to Bansin which is the third town along the coast. We got to the second town yesterday. Janne loved the train. Weather looking good but later about mid afternoon the rain came back but not as bad or cold as yesterday.
We learnt as we were going along that this area was founded in 700 for its fishing.
The walkways that you will see in the photos were all developed in 1900. What this development must have done for tourism in the area as you can walk between three towns all along these walkways. It is all flat. Between the three towns would be aprox four km which we walked back along in the afternoon, after walking around the village of Bansin. We are still doing a lot of walking. Like most of the day.
When they started building in this area every new house was a bit of a competition as the next person always tried to do a little better than the last.
Its all a lovely area with beautiful big buildings.
The rain came back in the afternoon but we still went out for dinner to the same spot as the first night. Got very wet.
We have enjoyed our three nights here with Steffi,Torsten and Janne. Thanks to you all for bringing us to this very nice area.
Tonight we will meet up for dinner which will be our last time together after nine nights in all. We have really enjoyed your company with your families and friends that we have met. Maybe we will meet next time in NZ........ We will be leaving at 9.00am tomorrow for Luneburg which will be about a four hour drive.
Torsten PT Steffi and Janne on the pier in the morning while waiting for our train ride to Bansin.
Looking along the beach from the pier still in Ahlbeck.
The tourist train that takes you between the three towns.
Inside the train PT, Janne, Torsten ,Steffi.
Still inside the train Torsten and Janne.
Now in Bansin Main street, Third town.
Bansin, Look at the lovely buildings.
We walked the approx. 4 km back to our hotel through the three towns. As you walk along these walkways some of the great properties below on the way. The above is a hotel. Love the blue flowers on the white walls.
I had to find another animal friend in Bansin.
Went off the walkways and continued along the beach. This is one of the traditional herring fishing boats.
Time for half way ice creams.
Above and below more lovely properties we walked past.
Just a beautiful area for walking. It was busy now so just imagines the people that would come here in the middle of the summer months. Steffi, PT and Torsten. Beautiful.
